Universal Plugin Manager 2.0 : Adding a Plugin

The Universal Plugin Manager (UPM) provides you with a simple way of adding new plugins to your application. Use plugis to customise and extend the functionality of your application. You can search for plugins in the Universal Plugin Manager (sourced from the Atlassian Plugin Exchange) or upload your own.

On this page:

Before you begin

Some things to note before you use the UPM:

  • In JIRA you cannot install or uninstall version 1 plugins using the Universal Plugin Manager.   Version 1 JIRA plugins listed in the Universal Plugin Manager have a Download button, rather than an Install button. You must download the plugin distribution and follow its specific installation instructions. Typically, you download the plugin into the <JIRA-install>/atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib directory as instructed in Managing JIRA's Plugins.  Ccorrespondingly, version 1 JIRA plugins do not have an Uninstall button. You must remove the plugin from the file system manually.
  • In Confluence, you can install and uninstall version 1 plugins using the Universal Plugin Manager.  You should see an Install or an Uninstall button with the plugin entry.

Some entries that you find listed in the Universal Plugin Manager are not actually plugins. For example, the JIRA Client is a useful program that runs alongside JIRA, rather than inside it as a plugin. These entries have a Download button that allows you to download the application to your desktop and run it following its specific instructions.
